All you have to do is look in the media, and you can see everyone is trying to predict the Superbowl. I can’t tell you who is going to win, but I can tell you who is going to lose. the team whose players treat the game as special will lose.
You see everything is important; nothing is special.
If you find yourself saying any of the following fourteen words, you may be thinking what you are doing is special. The fourteen words are, “This is it, it’s now or never, it’s do or die, there’s no tomorrow.” That’s making important things special. The problem is, as human beings, we don’t do well in special situations. Lucky for us, we do well in important situations.
You have to care, but you don’t want to care too much. If you care too much, you will put yourself if in overdrive and overthink.
Now most of us are not in the Superbowl today, but there is something we can take away from this lesson. Whatever you are doing, make sure you think it’s important. Instead of class is unimportant and a test is special, make it every class is important, every test is important. Every presentation is important, every sale is important.
Even when you are taking the MCAT, it’s important. End it there.
What do you think? Good advice.
